Semax
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the ACTH(4–10) fragment in which the C-terminus is extended with the Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide, conferring resistance to enzymatic degradation. It is used in neuroscience research as a tool compound for studying neurotrophin gene expression, melanocortin-related signaling, and neuroprotective pathways in cellular and preclinical models. Supplied as a lyophilized powder, 7 mg per vial.

Mechanistic Background
Published preclinical studies report that Semax modulates transcription of neurotrophin and neurotrophin-receptor genes and influences gene-expression networks associated with immune, vascular, and ischemia-response pathways in rodent brain tissue.
Research Applications
Semax is used in in vitro and preclinical neuroscience models to investigate:
- BDNF, NGF, and neurotrophin-receptor gene expression in neuronal cultures
- Transcriptomic responses in ischemia-related preclinical models
- Melanocortin-system signaling and receptor pharmacology
- Neuronal survival and oxidative-stress assays
- Peptide proteolysis, stability, and blood–brain-barrier transport models
- Comparative studies with parent ACTH fragments and Pro-Gly-Pro
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized material at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Following reconstitution in a suitable laboratory buffer, store at 2–8 °C and use within the timeframe established by your laboratory’s stability protocols. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles. Handle in accordance with standard laboratory practice for peptide reagents.
