Glutathione (reduced, GSH)

Glutathione is a naturally occurring tripeptide (γ-Glu-Cys-Gly) and the principal low-molecular-weight thiol antioxidant in mammalian cells. It is a standard laboratory reagent in redox biology, detoxification-enzyme assays, and oxidative-stress research, and serves as a substrate for glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, and glutathione S-transferase assay systems. Supplied as a lyophilized powder, 600 mg per vial.

Mechanistic Background

Through the reactive thiol of its cysteine residue, glutathione directly scavenges reactive oxygen species, regenerates other cellular antioxidants, and forms conjugates with electrophilic compounds, making it a central reagent for probing cellular redox homeostasis.

Storage & Handling

Store lyophilized material at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Allow the vial to reach room temperature before opening. Following reconstitution in a suitable laboratory buffer, store at 2–8 °C and use within the timeframe established by your laboratory’s stability protocols. Avoid repeated freeze–thaw cycles. Handle in accordance with standard laboratory practice for peptide reagents.
